FLOOR CARE

New Custom Finishes

After the final coat of water-based polyurethane on your custom finished floor, wait 3 hours before light foot traffic. Keep in mind the weather and relative humidity may affect these dry times.  Wait 2 to 3 days after a final coat to replace furniture (the finish is 96 to 97% cured at this time)  Use felt pads on all furniture.  We recommend removing the manufacturer’s plastic/metal “knob” on the bottom of most furniture before installing the felt pad.  Do not slide furniture across the newly finished floor.  Pick it up and put it into place.  If an area rug is desired, wait 7 to 10 days, as the finish reaches a full cure at this time.

All Polyurethane Finishes

Sweep or vacuum dirt/dust to clean polyurethaned floors. Use squeaky clean cleaner or white vinegar and water (1/4 cup to 1 gallon ratio) with a soft cloth or microfiber mop to clean.  Avoid cleaners with silicons or waxes (Murphy’s oil soap, Pledge, Orange Glow, etc) due to they will inhibit any additional coats of poly from bonding to your existing finish.  We recommend recoating your floors when minor surface scratches and dull areas appear.  High traffic areas may need a re-coat in 5 to 7 years (Factor in location of the floor, active family, etc)
